Deadly Human Rights Violations of the AKP
According to a report of the CHP, 121 unresolved murders, 388 extra-judicial executions, 274 deaths in custody and 45 case of death at social events have occurred in the past 10 years where the AKP have been in power.
The report criticised the fact that the murders processed by public servants remain unpunished. According to the report, “lack of punishment of the extra judicial executioners and torturers is also lying underneath the anti-government protests that spread to the whole of Turkey."
The content of the report is in relation to the results of court cases on behalf of citizens killed by public servants in the period of the AKP’s time in power. The results of court cases on behalf of citizens killed by public servants are as follows:
Ethem Sarısülük - Ankara: Sarısülük was injured in the head by a bullet from the police in the demonstration that occurred in Kızılay, Ankara, during the period of the Gezi Park events. The policeman who shot Sarısülük was let free.
Abdullah Cömert - Hatay: The perpetrators who took the life of Abdullah Cömert, who was killed by police, have not been arrested.
Medeni Yıldırım - Diyarbakır: A shot fired by a gendarme took the life of Yıldırım while he was protesting the construction of an army outpost. The Interior Ministry sent an inspector to examine the incident.
Mahir Zorbey - Aydın: According to the claims of the police, Zorbey was killed for running away and failing to obey the order to stop. In the investigation that took place at the location of the incident, it emerged that the police had fired repeatedly. In the first trial, the accused police officer was let free.
Doğan Teyboğa - Silopi- Şırnak: At a demonstration that occurred in Şırnak, Teyboğa was killed after being hit in the head by one of the tear gas bomb that the police were firing at random. The decision was given for a lack of grounds to prosecute in relation to the incident and no court case was opened.
