EU Punish AKP for Human Rights Crimes
The ECHM has ruled in two separate court cases that Turkey violated clauses of the European Human Rights relating to ill-treatment and the right to an effective investigation.
The applicants Zuhal Subaşı and Ali Çoban stated that they had been exposed to intense police violence in the 1st of May protests organised in Izmir in 2006 and made a complaint. According to the decision of the ECHM, Turkey will pay physical compensation of €15,000 to the applicants.
Furthermore, Turkey will also pay €15,000 compensation and €5,000 court costs for Abdullah Yaşa who was seriously injured in 2006 by a tear gas capsule fired by police during Nowruz (Persian New Year) celebrations in the Turkish city of Diyarbakır.
