Famed Writers Acknowledged by UNESCO
UNESCO has announced the works of important figures such as Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, Ernesto Che Guevara and Evliya Chelebi as being critically important parts of world cultural heritage. Having outstanding universal values for humanity, the UNESCO Cultural Heritage aims for the protection of admitted cultural and natural heritage.
The writings of the legendary leader of the Cuban revolution, Che Guevara, have entered the list following the application of Bolivia and Cuba. His works, which total 8197 pages, include articles written between the years 1928 and 1967 as well as his diaries.
The works written by the famous philosopher Karl Marx in collaboration with Friedrich Engels made the list following the application of Holland and Germany. Marx and Engels’ Communist Manifesto and Marx’s Das Kapital criticised the failings of the capitalist system and recommended the creation of political power of the working class. These and other works by the pair became the source of inspiration for the foundation of a number of important states such as the Soviet Union and China, and for the campaigns of many political movements.
Evliya Chelebi’s “Seyahatname” was also included on the list as a result of Turkey’s application. Chelebi told the story of his journeys to many parts of the world between the years 1640 and 1680.
