Human Trafficking on Syrian Border
Observers of events in the Middle East have been shocked by reports that 1,202 people have been caught while being smuggled over the border from Syria to Turkey.
A statement coming from the presidency of the Chief of Staff in Turkey has again shown to the nation the lawless state of regions near the border with Syria by listing what has been caught while groups attempted to smuggle them across into Turkey.
In the statement published on the official website of the presidency of the Chief of Staff on items and materials seized, it was stated that in the timeframe of the 11 to the 17 April, “1,202 people, 67 pistol bullets, 101 rifle bullets, 16,504 cartons of cigarettes, 45 kilos of narcotics, 4,443 litres of fuel oil, 17 mobile telephones, 184 small and large cattle, 14 forms of motor vehicle, 100 various electronic goods, 9,718 kilos of various food stuffs, 35 boxes of various medicines, 15,450 of pipe, 4 rolls of fabric, and 1 ton of junk.”
The presidency of the Chief of Staff further transferred in another statement that the those responsible for the monitoring of the Syrian border confirmed that fuel was smuggled for the purpose of pipelines. Upon further information from the Altınözü Public Prosecutor’s, one of the pipelines has been destroyed.
