Political caricaturist Carlos Latuff's works compiled in Turkish edition
The world-renowned political cartoonist Carlos Latuff's works were edited and published in a notable volume, by a Turkish publisher, for the first time in the world.
The Brazilian cartoonist, also known for his interest in Turkey's social and political conjuncture especially since the Gezi Park demonstrations, is thought to be one of today's most influential political cartoonists in the international arena.
The freelance political cartoonist's works have admirers amongst peoples of "oppressing" regimes from all around the world, especially the Middle East, Turkey and Latin America.
The edition of Carlos Latuff, the "master of scratched opposition" offers various sections including his entire works on Turkey, the Middle East and Latin America. Latuff has been working as a freelance caricaturist for several reputable newspapers, magazines and online news portals in Turkey and other countries.
In another section entitled "Works on Environmental Pollution, Social Issues and Refugee Crises" gave a wide coverage of issues including the climate change, the "worsening working conditions" of media workers and white collar employees, outbreaks hitting the world, Islamophobia and the Charlie Hebdo attack.
In this last section, the most remarkable cartoons involved Latuff's critical drawings about the refugee crisis and the approach of the U.S., the Europe, Arabic and other countries to the global issue.
The Editor of the publication, Murat Mıhçıoğlu from the Rodeo publishing house, inserted a comprehensive interview with the famous caricaturist, consisting of discussions during the preparation process of the corpus edition.
"For the first time, a huge collection of Latuff's major work is edited and published in a notable volume. What is surprising is that, the edition is made in Turkey, where Latuff is known to sting and hurt those in power the most" said Editor Murat Mıhçıoğlu, speaking to DHA.
"Despite what's going on actually in the country, politicians still talk about having a free press and respect to expression, and such books at such times are the best tests for them to overcome" Rodeo's editor noted.
