U.S. Embassy to Turkey in Ankara slammed a recent report of pro-government Star newspaper, claiming “the HDP’s election campaign strategy was determined at a meeting at the U.S. Consulate General” on Oct .30.
The report entitled “Host of the dark alliance: U.S.” has claimed seniors in Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) have met with a team from the U.S. at the Embassy in Istanbul, accompanied by Doğan Media Group and the “parallel media” where HDP’s strategies were determined with respect to a “superior mind.”
"The United States strongly supports freedom of press, even the freedom to print lies and surrealistic conspiracy theories, as Star did today" urged the U.S. Embassy on its Twitter ocount on Friday.
“The United States firmly supports freedom of the press and freedom of expression, even the freedom to print fabrications and false claims” urged the statement of U.S. Embassy, having added that the paper’s claim that the United States has been conspiring against the Turkish government or was in attempt to influence the outcome of elections in Turkey was also an “outright lie”.
"To be clear, there is no coordination between the United States government and any political party in Turkey" said the written statement.
The U.S. Embassy’s statement added that, the assertion that certain media organizations included this scenario was a part of Star’s “imagined plot”.
“Sadly, both the U.S. Mission in Turkey and independent media organizations have been the targets of extremist violence in the recent past. In this context, Star’s false claims are especially despicable and potentially dangerous” urged the Embassy, warning readers that “the report was made up of nothing more than lies and dark insinuations”.
