A new project by Turkish programmers has made it possible to see the Acropolis of the city of Pergamon, one of the oldest settled areas in history. By downloading the new application onto their smart phones and tablets, visitors to the site will be able to view the city in its original state in 360 degrees. While at the site it will be possible to view images of historic structures such as the Asclepeion, the Red Courtyard, the Shrine of Athena and the Great Altar of Pergamon, which was removed from the country in 1870.
The Mayor of Pergamon Mehmet Gönenç said in an announcement, “Using cutting-edge technology developed today, we are bringing modern people face to face with the extraordinary intelligence and creativity of those living 2000 years ago in this city.” The project was developed by students of the architecture faculties of Dokuz Eylül, Gediz and Yaşar universities, with the cooperation of Pergamon Municipality and Bilkom.
